Witness the Dark Rebirth in Tristram Cathedral — Diablo Immortal — Blizzard News

As with previous content updates, there will be server maintenance starting on September 20, from 5 p.m.–7 p.m. PDT for Oceania, China, East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Europe servers, and on September 21, from 1 a.m.–3 a.m. PDT for servers in the Americas. After the maintenance has concluded, all items mentioned below will be live—specific dates for any content going live afterward are provided below.

Season 18 Battle Pass: Fresh Meat

Reports from Wortham suggest the townsfolk are having peculiar dreams. . .some have even disappeared during the night. Returning to Tristram Cathedral to investigate these disturbances will have you crossing cleavers with an old nemesis, the Butcher, along with confronting a malicious enemy imbued with the power of Diablo himself.

Your descent will be hindered by new, unsightly abominations: the Shardborne. These grotesque beings are the unfortunate result of the corrupted Worldstone; shards penetrate the flesh of humans, reanimating the dead into lethal attackers, and slowly decay the living until they’re a twisted amalgamation of flesh. Tread carefully when in their presence—the slightest exposure to Worldstone shards will send them into a rabid craze.

The Cult of Terror looks to unleash these nightmares upon Sanctuary. Navigating treacherous locations, such as the manor where the Mad King lost himself and the cathedral where Diablo was once confined, will be paramount in keeping the Burning Hells’ influence at bay. Sanctuary needs you, adventurer.

To embark upon this journey into the bowels of Tristram Cathedral you must have completed the Ancients’ Cradle main questline—beginning with Fare You Well and ending with Creation’s Husk—and reached Hell Difficulty III.

Alley of Blood is a new team-based, single-lane PvP activity changing how Shadow Clans prove themselves in the Shadow War, and how they clash against Immortals for bonuses in the new Vigil of Blades component of Cycle of Strife. A variant of Alley of Blood is also available to play during a new limited-time event.

In Alley of Blood, teams will battle fiercely over hallowed ground, aiming to overpower the opposing team by demolishing their Sentry Towers and ultimately destroying the base of their operations, their Crystal Heart. In cases where both teams are evenly matched and neither Crystal Heart is destroyed, the winner is decided by the team with more remaining structures and overall team performance. Your team won’t be in this fight alone—massive Sacred Guardians seek to triumph over their adversary as well and will spawn to attack the enemy’s Sacred Guardians, Sentry Tower, and Crystal Heart. These stone behemoths deal massive damage, so you’ll want to clear a path for them.

Because there is only one lane to victory, teams will need to coordinate their efforts to outsmart their foes and specialize their fighting style. Before a match begins, players will pick one of the below Specialist skills to add to an additional Skill slot. Teams can’t have more than two players per Skills category, but those players can select the same sub-Skill. These Skills are unique to Alley of Blood and can only be used in this activity.

Cutting down the enemy team’s forces doesn’t just bring you satisfaction in Alley of Blood; it can also bring power to your character in the form of Champion’s Marks. These shiny symbols of strength can be picked up after they drop from destroyed Sacred Guardians and felled players. You can have a maximum of 99 Champion’s Marks, with each one increasing your power and character’s size. But beware--upon your own death, you’ll drop a portion of your Marks for the enemy team to scoop up.

As we mentioned previously, Alley of Blood can be played in two styles: an 8v8 fashion in Shadow War, and a 4v4 fashion in the Alley of Blood limited-time event.

Alley of Blood will become the new way in which Shadow War is waged—the same goes for the new Vigil of Blades component of Cycle of Strife. The schedule for Shadow War is changing as well. Here’s the new weekly schedule:

Additionally, the structure of Shadow War is also changing. Clans are now divided across multiple groupings based upon their Clan’s classification and the matches themselves are broken into 4 categories: Eminent, Exalted, Famed, and Proud. Clans can battle in anywhere between 3–12 matches and receive points for their win based on the category of the match. In the event nobody from the opposing team shows up by the start of the match, you’ll win by default.

Cast your blade into the fray to bring glory to your faction! After Shadow War concludes, and before Rite of Exile, the most prominent Shadow Clans will face off in an 8v8 battle against the Immortals in the Alley of Blood. Bring everything you’ve got and do not relent; the faction which wins 2 out of 3 matches will walk away with a bonus to their damage and health for fighting in the Rite of Exile. Vigil of Blades will only occur during the first three weeks of a new Immortal faction reign.

We’re also introducing two ways that anyone can be involved in Vigil of Blades and Rite of Exile—the Prediction system and Spectator mode.

In a new Cycle of Strife tab within the Faction menu, players can see the status of the conflict between Shadows and Immortals and cast their prediction for who will come out on top. Any player who casts a prediction will receive rewards, and those who predict correctly will get a sweet bonus reward.

From September 21, 3 a.m.–October 5, 3 a.m. server time a 4v4 version of Alley of Blood will be available to players. This event is especially good for those new to Diablo Immortal because of the rules of engagement listed below, but it’s also great for players who don’t participate in Cycle of Strife or want some extra experience playing Alley of Blood.

Here are the rules of engagement:

Bonuses from the following are disabled as well:

Playing in the Alley of Blood event can net you some helpful rewards such as: crafting materials, Battle Points, Legendary items, and Normal Gems. You must be Level 30 or higher to play the Alley of Blood event.

Three new Legendary Gems have joined the line up. Experiment with these gems to discover new synergies and make your character’s build blaze like the flames of the Burning Hells. The below values for each gem reflect their power at Rank-10:

Eye of the Unyielding (One-Star Gem): Continual damage done is increased by 16% and continue damage taken is reduced by 4%.

Viper’s Bite (Two-Star Gem): Damaging enemies poisons them with Viper's Venom, causing them to take 45% base damage + 120 damage every second for 6 seconds. Enemies inflicted with Viper's Venom also have their Attack Speed reduced by 6%. Cannot occur on the same target more often than once every 20 seconds.

Void Spark (Five-Star Gem): Dealing damage conjures a Void Spark for 6 seconds. While the Void Spark is active, dealing damage has a 30% chance of unleashing lightning that chains to a maximum of 8 nearby enemies, dealing 110% base damage + 446 to each enemy and increasing your Attack Speed by 16%. Lightning strikes can only trigger once every 1 second. Conjuring a Void Spark can only occur once every 20 seconds.

From September 21, 3:00 a.m.–October 12, 2:59 a.m. server time, players will have the option to enable a modified drop table for their Legendary Crests when running Elder Rifts. Once enabled, whenever you receive a Five-Star Legendary Gem as a drop, there’s a 50% chance it will be Void Spark.

The masses of Westmarch have grown restless. Time and again, their concerns are ignored by their monarch—until they spark like kindling on a pyre! Enough is enough. It is time to make a stand! With torches raised and a lust for justice, they step out of the shadows and begin their revolt.

From September 21, 3 a.m.–October 5, 3 a.m. server time, you can embark on Champions’ Revolt tasks, which can be completed infinitely, to receive Champions’ Commendations. You can have a total of 1,200 Champions’ Commendations each week. Once you’ve gathered a sizeable chunk of Commendations, they can be exchanged for rewards such as Gold, Scrap Materials, Enchanted Dust, Legendary items, Telluric Pearls, and Legendary Crests.

“Ah…fresh meat!” -The Butcher

Death was never part of your destiny. Get your time-withered hands on the Deathless Destiny Cosmetic Set in our newest Phantom Market from September 21, 3 a.m.–October 19, 3 a.m. server time. Let the dark magic that forged these necrosis-warding threads breathe longevity into your spirit.

Because items from the Phantom Market are acquired randomly per draw, we want to provide the initial draw rates for each item to aid in deciding if you would like to engage with the event past your first free draw.

Note: The drop rates provided below are for the first draw only and will adjust to reflect the relative probabilities of the remaining items in the Phantom Market item pool.

Feeling underfed, the moon demands sustenance, providing you with an upcoming opportunity to sate its seemingly endless appetite for blood!

The moonlit path you’ll take to heed your lunar overlord’s howl for sustenance is ready to be travelled. Players can complete up to three tasks a day between September 23, 3 a.m.–September 29, 3 a.m. server time. For more information about Hungering Moon, please visit this article.

In a place like Sanctuary, even those with the utmost mental fortitude can find themselves lost to the unrelenting darkness spread by the Burning Hells. Broken. Shattered. Trapped in the deepest recesses of their mind. Entering the Fractured Plane is the only way forward. This event will run from September 29, 3 a.m.–October 6, 3 a.m. server time.

We’ve made some changes to Fractured Plane as well:

Developer’s Note: We’ve received feedback stating that completing a run in Fractured Plane takes too long. To shorten the duration of each run, we’ve decreased the total number of Levels, thus keeping the moment-to-moment action up and decreasing average run times. Our other intent is that this change, coupled with an increase in Challenge Rooms and repeatable Chests, will create more moments of delight and intensity.

For more information about the Fractured Plane event, please visit this article.

Yakin has once again come into possession of some liberated merchandise, likely plucked from a far-away excavation. His Shady Stock is in high demand and will be available to peruse from September 30, 3 a.m.–October 7, 3 a.m. server time, or until Westmarch’s guards raid his supply. For more information about Shady Stock, please visit this article.

A true warrior isn’t measured by their title but by their feats. Add to your accolades from October 2, 3 a.m.–October 9, 3 a.m. server time by completing Daily and Challenge tasks from the Trials of the Warrior event. Players can either complete Bounties or slay Elite monsters to earn treasures befitting their valor. Based on the tier you achieve by the event’s conclusion; you’ll receive a corresponding reward via in-game mail. Players will only receive the reward for the highest tier achieved and not preceding tiers.

Players must log in the week following the event to receive their rewards.

An ancient fighting pit where the Fahiran aristocracy held brutal games has been uncovered in Shassar. Fight tooth and nail October 6, 3 a.m.–October 13, 3 a.m. server time during the Conqueror limited time PvP event to bring honor to your name and riches to your collection. For more information about this event, please visit this article.

A dangerous torrent of demonic destruction has flooded the murky waterways of Bilefen, grinding daily life to a sludgy halt. Sanctuary’s citizens who call this precarious network of swamps home are on their last leg—coming to their rescue is imperative.

Channel the arcane energy coursing through your mortal vessel to overcome the Perils of the Fen limited-time event. From October 7 at 3 a.m.–October 15 at 3 a.m. server time, as you complete Perils of the Fen tasks, you’ll receive rewards for your heroics. Racking up enough completed tasks will also unlock milestone rewards for you—a testament to your valor.

Legendary Gems can now be upgraded in smaller increments. Starting at Rank 5, Legendary Gems receive smaller incremental upgrades when combining each duplicate copy of the Gem, instead of requiring the full set to upgrade it to the next Rank. This change does not lower the overall number of Gems required to upgrade.

Abilities with short cast times—like the Crusader’s Holy Banner and Fist of the Heavens—will no longer be interruptible.

Players now have a one button click way to jump into a random Dungeon’s depths.

While searching for a random Dungeon, players may be grouped with another team at any time, which reduces the overall time spent matchmaking. Players who enter a Dungeon using this feature will have an increased chance to receive a Set item as a reward.

The rewards received for getting your first kill of the day are changing. This only applies to players who have achieved 7 or more first kills of a day ever on their respective character. Starting on your eighth kill of the day, you will receive the following rewards—this set of rewards will continue to recycle after completion.

Immortal Clans can now strive to earn a Blessed Reign by successfully defending the crown for 7 weeks. During the first three weeks of a reign the top 3 Shadow Clans and the Immortal Clans will battle each other in the new Vigil of Blades game mode to earn a bonus to damage and Life during the Rite of Exile in the remaining weeks of the reign. The faction that wins 2 of the 3 battles will gain +4% Life and damage, which stacks up to a 12% bonus if they win all three weeks.

We've increased the speed for the Idol during phase 2 of Battleground and Rite of Exile. The more players on the Idol—up to 4—will increase the movement speed by up to 30%. Additionally, we reduced the time required to activate the idols at the beginning of phase 2.

Developer’s Note: Overall, the goal is to help increase the rate of wins for attackers as they have fallen behind defenders again for total victories. The main area of improvement is centered around phase 2 of Battleground as it’s the most contested phase in the match.

Skills that provide the player with untargetable status will also no longer be able to push the Idol. We will be working through Legendary Essences in the future to ensure consistency, but right now, the main offenders to fix are Sanguinate, Solemn Snare, Swarm of Bats, and Wraith Form.

When Attackers successfully push the Idol to the end during phase 2, there was a short delay between that and successfully completing the phase. These two events now occur at the same time. This prevents situations where Attackers could push the Idol to the end, but would still lose the match because the doors hadn't opened yet, and more time hadn’t been added to the clock.

Immortal Vault defense rewards have been increased. You can now earn up to 200 Hilts for successfully defending the Vault, the weekly cap has been increased to 1400 Hilts.

Daily Quests for Immortals have been updated and revamped to improve the overall player experience.

Essentia is being removed from the game and will no longer be required as a resource for opening Kion's Vault. As a result, Shadows and Immortals will now fight over Vault Supplies in the Raid and Defend the Vault activities.

Additionally, adjustments have been made to how Kion's Ordeal interacts with Daedessa's Blessing so there will still be some initial conflict between the Shadows and the Immortals for this bonus.

Lastly, the damage bonuses received by Shadows when they increase their individual rank, and for Immortals when they increase their reign have been changed to progress at more even rates between the factions. The damage bonuses have also been lowered, with a new maximum benefit of 16%, previously 32%.

Developer’s Note: In our efforts to continue to make both sides of the Cycle of Strife appealing to all players, we evaluated several systems that interplay between the factions. We put a particular focus on improving the benefits of being an Immortal and making the progression of the Immortal and Shadows factions more evenly suited.

Players can now unlock 2 new cosmetics and several new Cloak options as part of the long-term progression as an Immortal.

Once a player has reached certain cumulative milestone weeks as an Immortal, they will unlock special rewards when their current reign ends. These cosmetics can be used by any class, regardless of current Immortal status. The most coveted cosmetic rewards will also require players to achieve the new Blessed Reign, by defending their Immortal crown for all 7 weeks.

Developer’s Note: We want players to strive to be Immortals; one of the unique aspects of being an Immortal is the faction-specific looks they can wear. While we want to retain the identity of being an Immortal and keep those cosmetics bound to them, it felt appropriate to give players permanent cosmetics to strive for.

We've received lots of feedback from players unable to participate during Shadow Assembly for a multitude of reasons. To allow more players to participate and earn the daily rewards from Shadow Assembly, it will be available from 12 p.m.–2 p.m. in addition to the original 7 p.m.–9 p.m. server time slot.

Shadow War start times are being pushed back to 7:30 p.m. server time, and the preparation phase is being reduced to 5 minutes.

Developer’s Note: We want to allow more time for players to participate in Shadow War and believe pushing the start time back should allow for increased participation.

Shadows will now have 21 tasks to complete each week instead of 3 tasks each day.

We are adding 8 all-new Elder Rift modifiers.

The difficulty required to unlock certain Zones and Dungeons has been changed:

Players will be able to unlock Chapters V and VI of the current Hero’s Journey. You cannot make progress towards the activities in these chapters without completing the previous chapter.

Players that are behind on the Warband's Ancestral Tableau will now receive bonus points to help them catch up to other players. Players that are just starting will receive up to a 5x bonus that will decrease as they get closer to the limit.

Additionally, players no longer need to be in a Warband to participate in Defense of Cyrangar and Purge the Depths. Both activities can now be accessed in Westmarch through Valstus, the Warband Steward.

The time it takes to complete rounds in the Defense of Cyrangar Endless Mode has been decreased.

Unveil 12 new pages for your Horadric Bestiary, covering the demons of the Hearthrot Helliquary and new threads from Ancients’ Cradle.

We are making a series of updates to the Immortal Vault experience, including additional UI support. Vault items will now be available for selection during Sunday and delivered on Monday during the reset at 3 a.m. server time. Contribution for the week will end Sunday at 3 a.m. local server time, allowing players to know their exact ranking on Sunday when they select their desired items. Players with the highest contribution will be placed at the top of the list, making it easier to see who is poised to win. Items that were stolen from the Vault will no longer be displayed.

This Major update introduces a Seasonal Prodigy’s Path. The Seasonal Prodigy's Path refreshes every season. This Seasonal Prodigy's Path will be available on October 6, 3 a.m. server time— January 6, 2024, 3 a.m. server time.

The Seasonal Prodigy's Path unlocks when players reach Paragon Level 140. Players can win rewards by increasing 5 Levels every time until all have been claimed. Unclaimed free rewards will be sent via in-game mail 14 days after season end. Once the Seasonal Prodigy's Path has been purchased, all unclaimed—including locked—rewards will be sent via in-game mail 14 days after the season ends.

Below you will find a region-specific update coming with this major update to the version of Diablo Immortal available in China.
